My family did not travel much when I was a child but when we did, my parents jumped through hoops to cut costs. On a trip to Disney World, for example, our family of six switched hotels. Every night. My mother worked for a hotel chain and could enjoy one free night per property. Did my parents save money? Yes. Did it add to the mental burden of travelling with four children? Absolutely. As an adult now and planning a trip with my own child, I fully understand how expensive — and hard — it is to travel with children. Planning and packing requires accounting for naps, snacks, tantrums and blowouts. And you are budgeting for an extra airfare, a bigger rental car and additional lodging. Family of slain Uvalde teacher close to raising $2m in GoFundMe campaign

A GoFundMe campaign set up in the name of Irma Garcia, the fourth grade teacher killed during a mass shooting at a Texas primary school on Tuesday, has raised more than $1.77 million after renowned Twitter philanthropist Bill Pulte asked his 3.2 million followers to donate money to pay for funeral costs and help to financially support her family. The original goal of the GoFundMe campaign was to reach $30,000, according to a tweet by Ms Garcia’s nephew, John Martinez, who reached out to Mr Pulte to help the family reach their financial target, according to the Detroit Free Press newspaper. Ms Garcia, a mother of four children, was killed alongside co-teacher Eva Mireles and 19 of their students by teenage gunman Salvador Ramos at the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, in one of the deadliest school shootings in the US in years. School fees app that eases cash flow stress for parents raises $9.4m

 A FinTech app that enables parents in the Middle East and North Africa to settle school fees with pay-now and pay-later options has raised $9.4 million in a seed round that was oversubscribed. The app, called zenda, addresses “pain points” around the payment of school fees through its buy now, pay later business model, the company said on Monday. It allows families to track when school fees are due and make payments through pay-now and pay-later options, while unlocking rewards for paying on time, the start-up said. “In today’s digital world, we seek low friction and immediacy — why should that not be the case for fee payments?” said Raman Thiagarajan, chief executive and founder of zenda. “Part of the ecosystem still runs on cash or cheque with no convenient option to pay later. Billionaire Howard Schultz returns to Starbucks on $1 salary

 Billionaire businessman Howard Schultz, 68, returns to Starbucks on Monday as the company’s interim chief executive on a salary of $1. The change in leadership comes as Kevin Johnson retires from his role as president and chief executive of the Seattle-based company. “Schultz is volunteering his time as interim CEO to Starbucks and will receive $1 of compensation,” the company said in a statement on its website. Launched in 1971, Starbucks is the world’s largest coffee house chain with more than 34,000 shops in 83 markets. Mr Schultz, who has a net worth of about $4.3 billion, estimates by Forbes magazine show, first joined Starbucks in 1982 and was chief executive from 1986 to 2000, during which he grew the company globally and took it public on the Nasdaq. Billionaires: Rupert Murdoch lists two New York apartments for $78m

 Billionaire Rupert Murdoch is listing a pair of apartments in New York for $78 million, less than a decade after purchasing them and conducting an extensive renovation. The News Corp founder is selling his $62m triplex penthouse and a smaller apartment on a lower floor for $16m, according to a property listing on Corcoran Group’s website. Corcoran's Deborah Grubman, the property agent selling the apartments, did not immediately return a call for comment. Mr Murdoch paid about $57.9m in 2014 for the properties in the Flatiron District, according to The Wall Street Journal , which earlier reported the listings. The triplex, which features five bedrooms and a great room, is 6,850 square feet (636 square metres) and has views across Manhattan.
